Bangladesh speedster Taskin Ahmed bagged his career’s maiden ODI hattrick
Hat-trick for Taskin Ahmed! He becomes the fifth Bangladesh player to take an ODI hat-trick.
Hosts skipper Tharanga won the toss for the second successive match, but this time opted to bat first.
After visiting captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza removed opener Danushka Gunathilaka early, Tharanga and Mendis added 111 in the second wicket.
Tharanga, playing his 200th ODI, hit 65 off 76 balls thanks to nine fours before falling victim to a run out.
Mendis’ innings came to a close when the opener’s strike hit bowler Taskin Ahmed and went upwards as he took an easy catch. The batsman made 102 from 107 balls thanks to nine fours and a six.
Bangladesh speedster Taskin Ahmed bagged his career’s maiden ODI hattrick, but a century from Kusal Mendis helped Sri Lanka make 311 in the second ODI against Bangladesh in Dambulla on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka lost their last six wickets in the space of 40 runs as two run outs courtesy of some good work by Mushfiqur Rahim and that Taskin treble unsettled the hosts’ charge.
Asela Gunaratne, who blasted 39 in 28 balls with a four and a six, first gave a catch to Soumya Sarkar while Mustafizur Rahman took another catch in the next ball to remove Suranga Lakmal, leaving Taskin with a chance to bag his first hattrick.
And the paceman duly obliged, uprooting the wickets of Nuwan Pradeep to become the fifth Bangladesh to bag an ODI hattrick.
The Tigers will be confident after first ODI’s 90-run win and will be eager to change the fact that no team have ever won chasing 300 or more in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka 311 all out (Kusal Mendis 102, Upul Tharanga 65; Taskin Ahmed 4 for 47) vs Bangladesh.
