Will Shakib lead the Tigers in the T20s after the retirement of Mashrafe?
Terming Mashrafe a player who has more to offer than just his performance, the BCB chief said that ‘nobody in Bangladesh can replace the Narail Express’.
Nazmul was speaking to newsmen at Colombo today (Wednesday), a day after Mashrafe announced his retirement on his Facebook page.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has dropped the strongest hint that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will lead the Tigers in the T20s after the retirement of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
“His leadership quality and commitment and dedication towards the team is a rarity. Mashrafe is a player who will dearly be missed. We will get many good players, but we won’t get another Mashrafe,” he said.
The BCB boss then went on to let the media know about his personal choice as the next T20 captain, “As far as captaincy is concerned, we only have Mushfiq, Shakib, Mashrafe, Tamim and Mahmudullah. Since Shakib is the vice captain, I think he should lead the team. He is also ahead in terms of form and attitude.”
Nazmul also confirmed that Mashrafe will continue to lead the ODI team. “Even a year back we thought it would be difficult for him to play the Champions Trophy. But it now seems that he would play for a few more days,” he added.
