Rabindranath Tagore’s 157th birth anniversary Today. Elaborate programs have been planned to observe the birth anniversary of Asia’s first Nobel laureate.
The 157th birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore is being celebrated with due reverence across the country Today.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7, 1861 at Jorasanko mansion in Kolkata, Rabindranath Tagore was the youngest of 13 surviving children of Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi.
He became a poet, visual artist, playwright, novelist, and composer, whose work reshaped Bangla literature and music in the late 19th to early 20th centuries.
Worldwide recognition came in 1913 when, at the age of 52, Tagore became Asia’s first Nobel laureate, winning the Nobel Prize in literature for his book, “Gitanjali”.
His other best known works include “Gora”, “Ghare-Baire”, and “Chokher Bali”, while two of his songs are used as the national anthems of Bangladesh and India.
Tagore’s birthday falls on Boishakh 25 in the Bangla calendar.

To observe the day, the government as well as different socio-cultural organizations and media outlets have chalked out elaborate programs.
The main event of the day will be held at 3pm at the Shilaidah Kuthibari, an ancestral mansion of the Tagore Zamindari in Kumarkhali upazila, Kushtia.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will attend the program as the chief guest, while Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu will be there as the special guest. Cultural Affairs Minister Assaduzzaman Noor will preside over the program.
Dhaka University’s program to mark the day will include the presentation of a keynote paper by development studies professor Dr Atiur Rahman titled “The influence of Shilaidah in Rabindranath’s work.”
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Aktaruzzaman will preside over the program, which will be followed by a cultural event.
Private TV station Channel i will organize the Rabindra Mela (Rabindra Fair) on its premises, where the channel authorities will present an award for contributing to research on Rabindranath or for having the best performance of his songs.
